Sora
Sora from OpenAI is the long-awaited AI tool that turns your text into videos. You can also remix videos or blend multiple prompts.
Overview
Sora from OpenAI is a tool that turns your text into videos. People using ChatGPT Plus or Pro accounts get more features.
You just type a description and it creates a short video. The first version supported different sizes and went up to 1080p. Videos could run about 20 seconds. You could blend different prompts or remix scenes together into one clip. But it had some issues. Objects didn’t always stay consistent physics were off and scenes got glitchy when they got too detailed.
Version 2 fixes a lot of that. It now includes sound so audio lines up better with what’s on screen. That means dialogue background noise and effects feel more natural. The motion also looks more real. It’s better at keeping objects steady and reducing strange visual mistakes.
There’s also more control. You can guide the style timing, camera movement and how each scene is set up. And there’s a new feature where you can add yourself to a video. Just record a short clip of yourself or someone who gives permission and use that to insert their face and voice.
Sora now has a mobile app and a web version. The app works a lot like TikTok. You scroll through videos share remixes and follow other creators. You can even take someone else’s video and remix it into a chain building on what others made.
Sora 2 can still show copyrighted characters unless the owners say no. But public figures won’t appear unless they upload their own cameo. There are also new safety systems. The tool adds tracking data like watermarks and blocks fake or non-consensual content.
Some things are still the same. Videos are short around 10 seconds. Remixing is still a key strength. And while the visuals have improved you might still notice some small glitches especially in busy scenes or fast movement.
Right now access is limited. It’s invite-only and only available in the US and Canada. And it’s just on iOS for now. You sign in using your OpenAI or ChatGPT account. Early access is rolling out to longtime users and paid subscribers first. Some people said new Plus users can’t create videos right away.
OpenAI plans to add pricing later so it won’t stay free forever. They’ve also made moderation stricter to avoid abuse like deepfakes or harmful content.

Compare With an Alternative
Comparing with: None
Most users seem unimpressed with SORA, with a lot of them outright trashing it as "crap" or "garbage" (think @FactsForFarmers, @Eggs_and_Jakey, @perseus2134, and @NortonBreads).
The biggest gripes? It's hard to use and feels super limited. @MostlySpecial couldn’t stand the limits on creating videos, and @philsandberg slammed the steep pricing for anyone not paying premium.
Compared to its competition—like Veo2 and Kling 1.6—SORA just doesn’t hold up. @emile_amajar and @janekm agree these other tools perform better and feel more reliable.
Then there’s the issue of access. Folks like @TiborFarkas call out SORA’s stingy credits and restrictive features, making it tough to get much done unless you spend big.
And while it was hyped early on, people like @PseudoProphet say the buzz faded fast once everyone got their hands on it. Turns out, SORA just didn’t live up to the hype.

People on Twitter sound pretty tired and let down by OpenAI's Sora 2 launch. Some joke that OpenAI pulled another stunt where they overpromised and then underdelivered. They warn that too much hype then letdown makes people lose trust faster than the tech breaking.
A bunch of folks said the fun didn’t last long. Just a couple days. They’re already comparing it to letdowns from DALL·E 3 and 4o image stuff. Others are mad about OpenAI using loads of copyrighted material while still controlling what users can make. They say OpenAI should just treat adults like adults.
The vibe's pretty clear. People are skeptical, worn out, and making jokes instead of getting excited.
