On Feb 4 2026 xAI launched Grok Imagine 1.0, a major update to its AI video model.
Now it makes 10-second clips instead of only 6 second ones. The videos come in 720p HD so they look clear and run smoother. Sound’s way better too, with clear voices, improved background noise and music mixed in with what the characters say.
The longer duration and higher resolutions though are now locked behind a paywall so if you'd like to even try those you need to begin your 7 day free trial.
It also reportedly has better prompt following, sticking to detailed instructions more often.
xAI calls this its biggest jump so far in Grok’s video skills. Looks like it’s set up to go against other short AI video tools from Google and OpenAI.
Why sound got better
Unlike older AI video tools that slapped on bland sound after the fact, Grok Imagine 1.0 makes audio while it's building the video. So stuff like character lines, background sounds and music all move in sync with what’s on screen.
