Veena TTS
India's first open-source TTS model Veena brings natural voices to Hindi, Hinglish and English with sub"‘80"¯ms latency and four distinct voices.
Overview
Veena turns text into speech that sounds human not robotic. It works in Hindi Hinglish and English and it’s snappy enough to be used in real time. So it doesn’t just read your text it talks like someone you might know. Maya Research a lab out of India made it. They’re trying to make strong AI tools anyone can use not just big tech folks. Most TTS tools still mess up Indian languages. Veena doesn’t. It nails Hindi, Hinglish and English and can hang with top names like ElevenLabs in quality tests.
The voices.
There’s four of them Kavya, Agastya, Maitri and Vinaya. Each one sounds different so you can pick the one that fits what you’re building.
Audio quality.
It speaks in 24"¯kHz thanks to SNAC codec. That’s clean clear sound without the usual weirdness that plagues cheap TTS.
Speed.
It’s fast. Sub"‘80"¯ms latency if you run it on H100 GPUs which means it's solid for live apps.
Use it for.
- Screen readers and accessibility apps
- Bots that talk like humans
- Audiobooks or voiceovers
- Car navs that sound local not like a GPS from 1999
The buzz is positive especially on X and LinkedIn. Parul Pandey shared it with praise for how natural the Indian accent sounds and how rare it is to see this done right and open source.
You can run it locally for free or use it online at Maya Research's platform with restrictions or as a paying client.

Artificial intelligence is a life-changing, sometimes life-like phenomenon—but it’s not without its quirks.
