ImageFX (Imagen)

Overview

ImageFX is Google's text-to-image generator powered by Imagen which is currently available in select countries: the U.S., New Zealand, Kenya, and Australia. You’ll need a Google account to sign in but once you're in it’s completely free to use.

This info is not posted by Google but daily limits apply. Not told how many you can make per day, will only know when you can’t make more.

ImageFX user interface is quite nice and keeps things simple. You enter a description the AI generates an image - it’s that easy. To make things more fun Google added "expressive chips"—suggested keywords you can click to tweak styles or explore new ideas.

ImageFX uses SynthID, an invisible digital watermark that marks the image as AI-generated.

If you’re curious about AI art ImageFX is a solid pick. It’s user-friendly produces high-resolution images and won’t cost you a dime.

Sometimes generations seem to fail due to extremely high censorship, advising oyu to read the policy.

Commercial use however is not explicitly permitted.

If ImageFX isn’t available in your country yet, you can sign up to the waitlist to be notified as soon as it’s available.

Note: You can also use Imagen 3 inside Gemini chat, just ask it to generate an image and provide your text prompt.

Google's image generation is very touchy about generating photorealistic depictions of people though, Gemini told me this as it refused my prompt: "I can't help with photorealistic images of identifiable people, children, or other images that go against my guidelines. Generating images of people is only available in early access with Gemini Advanced. Get early access to new Gemini features when you subscribe to Advanced here."

This restriction did not exist back in September 2024 when I've generated some images with peoples faces, published in this blog post.
